Kenneth Barnes

Mr. Kenneth Troy Barnes, age 67 of Alston, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia following a valiant fight with cancer.

He was born on January 11, 1955 to the late Troy Franklin and Ellie Browning Barnes. He was a native of Montgomery County, having lived most of his life in Alston. He was a 1973 graduate of Montgomery County High School and a member of the Alston Baptist Church. Ken was a master welder by profession, having worked all over the southeastern and southwestern United States. He was most recently employed by Moses Grass Company and the City of Alston. Ken was an avid gardener and enjoyed anything “outdoors.” He was especially proud of his track record at Montgomery County High School.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Lora Gale Barnes Oglesby, and a step-sister, Linda Phillips.

Those left to cherish his memory include one daughter, Samantha and Eric Carlson of Cantonment, Fl; three grandsons, Tyler, Sam, and Connor; his step-mother, Jean Colson Barnes of Macon, Ga; two brothers, Donald Barnes and wife Jo of Cherokee, NC, and Ronald Barnes and wife Wanda of Alston; three sisters, Sue Carter and husband Henry, Angie Lewis and husband Mike, and Robbie Waller and husband Doyle, all of Alston, Ga; one step-brother, Kenny Colson of Butler, Ga; two step-sisters, Ann Blaxton and husband Larry, and Debbie Robinson, both of Macon, Ga; a special cousin/sister, Deloris James and husband Dale of Alston, Ga; one uncle, Harvey Barnes and Wife Hortense of Brunswick, Ga; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family will assemble at the Alston Baptist Church at 12:30pm on Sunday, May 8, 2022, for a family meal. The social hall will be open at 10:30am to receive food.

A family conducted graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at 4:00pm at Sharpe Cemetery near Alston.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Community Hospice Foundation, PO Box 2277, Vidalia, GA 30475, or the Sharpe Cemetery Fund, PO Box 133, Alston, GA 30412.
