Ms. Ramona Calhoun Stephens, age 91, of Decatur, died Saturday, May 7, 2022, at The Oaks Bethany in Vidalia following a lengthy illness.  She was a native of Tarrytown, graduated high school there, and earned an Associate degree from Brewton-Parker College.  She was a military wife, living in San Antonio, Texas and worked there as a substitute teacher.  She lived in Decatur the majority of her life, and in 2017, moved to Lyons to be closer to her son.  She retired after many years as an administrative assistant from the Gwinnett County Police Department, and was a member of Scott Boulevard Baptist Church in Decatur.  She enjoyed reading, shopping, and antiques.  Preceding her in death were her parents, Vance Omar Calhoun and Mary Anderson Calhoun; and five siblings, Harold, Tom, Calfrey, Donald “D.O.”, and Eileen.

Her family includes three children, Rick Stephens of Lyons, Kathy Stephens Highman and husband Ainsley of Bradford, Connecticut, and Pam Stephens McCarthy of Starr City, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Michael MacCausland of Reading, Pennsylvania, and Ryan Stephens and wife Philli of Osnabruck, Germany; four great-granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be Thursday, May 12th, at 2:00 p.m. at Tarrytown City Cemetery with Pastor Efton Green officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sweet Onion Animal Protection Society, PO Box 2277, Vidalia, GA 30475.
