Mr. Wendell Troy Nelms, age 81, of Lyons, died Saturday, May 21, 2022, at his home after an extended illness. He was a native of Wheeler County, growing in Glenwood, and was a 1958 graduate of Glenwood High School. Immediately following high school, he served four years in the U.S. Navy, going to eight countries. He retired after thirty years as pilot plant technician from J.M. Huber in Macon. He was Baptist by faith, and enjoyed fishing and visiting family. Preceding him in death was his parents, Troy Nelms and Rebecca Neal Nelms; and three siblings, Marshall E. Nelms, Doloras Nelms Harris, and Helen Nelms Windham.
His family includes one daughter, Kathy Whitaker of Lyons; two granddaughters, Christy Tindal and husband Chris of Ridgeland, South Carolina, and Brittany Whitaker of Lyons; four great-grandchildren, Georgia Whitaker, Brayden Tindal, Jeremy Whitaker, and Aubree Tindal; one sister-in-law, Patsy Nelms of Lyons; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Monday, May 23rd, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday afternoon from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
