Mr. Daniel O. “Dan” Cross, age 68, beloved husband of the late Ruby Harrell “Tensie” Cross passed away on Saturday afternoon, May 21, 2022 at their home in the Lothair Community of Soperton, Georgia.

Born in Middletown, New York, he was the youngest of five sons, born for seven consecutive generations in his family, to the late Harry L. Cross and Marjorie Jeanette Mauk Cross.  He grew up in Middletown where he attended high school before enlisting in the U.S. Army.  During junior and high school for a food and beverage business known as Tippy’s in Middletown, which sparked his entrepreneurial spirit and desires.  Having worked as Manager and a Bartender in various establishments in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area in the late 1970s; he relocated to Pinebush, New York in the 1980s where he realized his dream as he bought, renovated and ran Bentley’s Bar.  In 2000 he moved to Georgia and worked at Mohawk Industries and later Husqvarna, as a Maintenance Supervisor until retiring.  While working at Mohawk he met Ruby Lee “Tensie” Harrell; whom he would marry in 2002.  She passed away in 2018.

Dan was a man of his own mind and beliefs and pretty much did things his way, even sometimes running across the grain.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Jerry Cross.

Dan leaves behind: three sons, Michael Cross and Ryan Cross, both of Middletown, NY, Jonathan Cross, of Florida, two daughters, Melanie Dempsey (Alex) and Tina Yeomans (Joey), both of Cochran, GA, two brothers, David Cross and Ralph Cross (Heaven), all of Soperton, GA, grandchildren, Hannah Johnson (Kirk), Christina Dempsey, Cherish Dempsey, Lydia Dempsey, Ethan Dempsey, Micah Dempsey, Kyler Parr and Tyler Yeomans as well as nieces and nephews, Gary Cross, John Cross, Stephen Cross, Tara Cramer, Kyle Cross, Darryl Cross, Seth Becroft, Jake Cross and Daniel Eherts.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 26, 2022 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Roswell Chapman officiating.  Mr. Cross will be laid to rest beside his wife in the Rosemont Church Cemetery.  His family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
