Mr. Thomas Charles “Tom” Polletta, age 74 of the Oglethorpe Community of Soperton passed away on Friday morning, June 24, 2022 at his home.

Mr. Polletta grew up on the West Coast, had also lived in Tennessee and for approximately twenty years in the Atlanta area before moving to Soperton most recently.  He had worked as a Truck Driver and Security Guard for many years while in Tennessee.

He is a proud United States Marine Corps Veteran, having served in Vietnam from where he received a Purple Heart for being wounded in action.  He and his twin brother served in Vietnam together where his brother gave his life.

He was an avid fan of Elvis Presley and was a recognized Elvis impersonator and performer.  Mr. Polletta enjoyed riding motorcycles; especially his Harley Davidsons.

He was a man of his word.  If you didn’t want his answer, don’t ask the question.  He didn’t round off the corners; once a Marine, always a Marine.

In addition to his twin brother, he is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Jenna Polletta.

Mr. Polletta leaves behind his wife, Velma Ann Beasley Polletta, a step son, Travis Beasley (Debbie),  step daughters, Wanda Phillips (Troy), Karen Beasley, all of Soperton and Velina Meeks (Damien) of Elberton.  He also leaves twenty grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Hammond officiating.

Mr. Polletta will be laid to rest, with military honors, in the Beasley Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be:  Joshua Beasley, Matthew Teruel, David Beasley Jr., David Beasley, Devan Steptoe and Daniel Pope.

Serving as honorary escorts will be:  Skylar Beasley and Troy Phillips Jr.

His family will receive friends on Monday, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
