Joy Bowen

Mrs. Joy R. Bowen, age 82, of Oak Park, died Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia after a brief illness.  She was a native of Oak Park, a 1957 graduate of Oak Park High School, and attended South Georgia College in Douglas, where she studied accounting.  She began her career with Cathcart Allied Moving & Storage, retiring after forty-five years as Vice-President and CFO.  She was a member of Pendleton Springs Baptist Church, where earlier in her life, sang in the choir and played piano.  Mrs. Bowen enjoyed traveling, the beach, gardening, her community of Oak Park, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.  She was a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a Decatur Garden Club.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Herman Gaynor Ridgdill, Sr. and Frankie Williamson Ridgdill; and four siblings, Robert Black, Jane Jackson, H.G. Ridgdill, Jr., and Francis Ridgdill.   

Her family includes her husband of sixty-two years, Lowell Bowen of Oak Park, GA; three children, Casandra Bowen Ziadie and husband Delroy of Bethlehem, GA, Judith Bowen Cape and husband Todd of Braselton, GA, and Brandon Lowell Bowen and wife Elizabeth Baxley-Bowen of Carterville; one sister, Janice Hamrick of Hickory Flat, GA; one sister-in-law, Cornelia Ridgdill of Oak Park; eight grandchildren, Belinda Fries, Joshua Ziadie, Micki Eubanks, Jeremy Ziadie and wife Katherine, Jacob Ziadie and wife Rebekah, Lindsey Ammons and husband Nathan, Evan Cape, Thomas “Tom” Lowell Bowen, and Katherine Holder Bowen; five great-grandchildren, Jessica, Rebecca, Owen, Ethan, and Robert; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, August 9th, at 11:00 a.m. at Pendleton Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Sweat and Pastor Gaynor Ridgdill officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to Pendleton Springs Baptist Church, 709 Pendleton Cut Off Road, Lyons, GA 30436.
