Ms. Katherine Ann Nelms “Kathy” Whitaker, age 60, of Lyons, died Wednesday, September 14, 2022, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Lyons.  She was a native of Cochran, a 1980 graduate of Bleckley County High School, and attended Middle Georgia College in Cochran.  She moved to Montgomery County in 1981, Hardeeville, South Carolina in 1994, and has lived in Lyons since 1999.  She was produce and dairy manager at Bi-Lo and Winn Dixie in Vidalia and Piggly Wiggly in Hardeeville.  Earlier in her life, Kathy attended White Springs Baptist Church in southern Laurens County.  She enjoyed going to the beach, and collecting seashells and unicorns.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Wendell Troy Nelms and Shirley Ann Grinstead Nelms. 

Her family includes two daughters, Christy Whitaker Tindal and husband Brian of Ridgeland, South Carolina, and Brittany Lynn Whitaker of Lyons; four grandchildren, Georgia Whitaker, Brayden Tindal, Jeremy Whitaker, and Aubree Tindal; former husband, Tim Whitaker of Ridgeland; one aunt and numerous cousins.

A memorial service will be Monday, September 19th, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home.
