Clarence Linton

Mr. Clarence Linton, Jr., age 93, of Columbus, Georgia, died Monday, September 5, 2022, in Cartersville Nursing and Rehabilitation after an extended illness.  He was a native of Savannah, and in his early life joined the Merchant Marines where he served from 1945 to 1952.  Soon after, he joined the United States Army and retired after twenty-six years as a Master Sergeant.  He was a Korean and Vietnam Veteran.  During his military career, he was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, 1st Oak Leaf Cluster; Good Conduct Medal, 8th Award; Army Commendation Medal; Bronze Star Medal, 4th Oak Leaf Cluster; Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Star and one Bronze Star; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm; Overseas Service Bars, 6 Bars; Air Medal; United Nations Service Medal; Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars; Meritorious Service Medal; Parachutist Badge; Presidential Unit Citation, Army; Eight Service Stripes; and the Combat Infantryman Badge, 2nd Award

After his military career, he worked with W.C. Bradley in Columbus until his retirement in 1970.  He was a Mason in Bamberg, Germany, and also a Shriner and member of the Scottish Rite.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and history.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. Higgs Linton; his parents, Clarence Linton, Sr. and Bessi Gertrude Shuman Linton.

His family includes his sister-in-law, Shellie H. Dover of Cartersville; brother-in-law, Henry O. Higgs, Jr. of Omaha, Nebraska; several nieces and nephews, including Henry and Dawn Dover and family, Susan Woodman and Kin Woodman; and a great-niece, Kindra Woodman

The graveside memorial service will be Saturday morning, October 1st, at 11:00 at Ohoopee Community Cemetery with Johnny McCullough officiating

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Home of Georgia, P.O. Box 4183, Macon, GA 31208.
