The following statement was released Thursday morning following a joint meeting with all public and private schools in the area:
"With the chance of severe inclement weather still possible because of Hurricane Ian, area Superintendents and Headmasters have decided to cancel classes for Friday September 30th. This includes Vidalia City, Toombs County, Montgomery County, Vidalia Heritage and Robert Toombs
"We may not even get a part of what has been predicted, but we would rather err on the side of caution, especially when it comes to our buses being out on the road," said John Koon, Communications Director for Vidalia City Schools. "We know that this creates a problem for some working parents, but the safety of our children and staff is our goal, and hopefully with this advance notice it won't cause too much of a problem," Koon added.
Students, teachers and staff of all schools will be expected to report at the normal time on Monday."
