1 30 23 012823 BSB Recap at Keiser E. Castillo3564

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Brewton-Parker baseball wrapped up the season-opening series in West Palm Beach, Florida with a single nine-inning contest on Saturday against No. 25-ranked Keiser.

The Barons (2-1) captured the weekend series taking two of the three games against the Seahawks (1-2) with a late, ninth-inning homer from Jacob Mantooth to win 6-5.

How It Happened

After a scoreless first inning to open the game, Brewton-Parker struck first early in the second with Anyelo Sanchez dropping a two-run bomb to left field, scoring Tate Worrell who notched a leadoff single.

With a two-run lead, BPC added three runs off three hits and a Seahawk miscue to take a 5-0 advantage in the top of the third inning. Kennard Dawson singled to center field before Eduardo Castillo homered to left field for two RBIs. After a double down the left-field line from Brandon Lawrence, he eventually made it around the bases by stealing third and crossing home plate on a throwing error.

The Seahawks did not give up, responding with four runs in the bottom half of the third inning to pull within one run. Keiser utilized an early error to land two runners on base before connecting on an RBI single to put their first run on the scoreboard. The hosts followed up with an RBI single, an RBI sacrifice fly, and an RBI double to add three runs, making the score 5-4.

After a scoreless top half of the fourth for BPC, Keiser converted a double into an RBI to equalize the game at five runs each. Castillo found a double in the fifth, but the Barons were held scoreless. Both teams struggled to get more than a hit each in the remainder of the game until Mantooth knocked out a leadoff solo shot over left center to give Brewton-Parker a 6-5 lead. Luckily for BPC, that was all that was needed to secure the win and the series.
