Mrs. Viola Strickland Cannon, age 84, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation in Soperton after an extended illness. She was born in Tattnall County, later moved to Evans County, and was a 1957 graduate of Evans County High School. She moved to Vidalia in 1958 and worked for Oxford Industries for forty years until her retirement in 2003. She went on to volunteer as an auxilian at Meadows Regional Medical Center for thirteen years. Viola was a member of First Advent Christian Church where she served as treasurer and secretary for thirty years. She enjoyed sewing, planting flowers, and camping. She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Edward “Edd” Cannon; parents, Marcus Strickland and Ida Mae Ray Strickland; five brothers, Wendell Strickland, Hugh Strickland and Billy Strickland and two infant brothers; and three sisters, Doris Watson, Virginia Dubberly and Elna Cannon.
Her family includes one daughter, Rhonda Cannon Edge and husband Steve of Soperton; one granddaughter, Christine Edge Phillips and husband Craig of Soperton; one grandson, Justin Edge and wife Kayla of Eatonton; four great-grandchildren, Harley, Brooklynn, and Charlee, all of Soperton, and Eli of Eatonton; one sister-in-law, Rowena Strickland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be Friday morning, June 9th, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Clint Hutcheson and Pastor Michael Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
