obit Morris

Mrs. Mildred Thigpen Morris, age 93, of Higgston, died Thursday morning, March 14, 2024, at Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation after a brief illness. She was a native of Montgomery County living most of her life in Higgston. Mildred graduated high school in Kibbee and worked for many years as a secretary with Farmers Mutual Exchange. She was a member of Higgston Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for forty plus years. She loved mission work and would crochet hats to give to Operation Christmas Child. In her spare time she loved fishing, gardening, cooking and crafts. She especially loved reading her Bible, her country, spending time with her family, friends, and church family. She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years, Douglas Manning Morris; parents, Wiley R. Thigpen and Dottie Lee Walker Thigpen; one brother, Hildred Thigpen; and one sister, Bernice Richards.

Her family includes her sister-in-law, Delores Morris Johnson; two special cousins, Marsha Mercer Rich and Hannah Claxton Autry both of Mt. Vernon; and was blessed with many other cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and Jesus Christ who saved her soul.

The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, March 17th at Higgston Baptist Church from 2:00 until just prior to the service.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday afternoon, March 17th at 3:00 at Higgston Baptist Church with Pastor Clarence Best and Pastor Murray Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Justin Rich, Chris Autry, Darrell Mercer, Eric Burns, Scott Holland and Tristan Willis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lamar Fountain, J.T. Helms, Buster Morris, Eric Moxley, Earl Williamson, Terry Dorsey, Kevin Mercer, Barry Allen and former Sunday school students that she taught.

The family will be gathering at the home of Marsha Rich, 568 Georgia Highway 199, Mt. Vernon, GA 30445.
