An investigation of contraband being brought into the Laurens County Detention Center in Dublin has resulted in the arrest of a man who had been charged with the authority to oversee inmates and detainees.
According to a press release from the Laurens County Sheriff's Office, Joseph Phillips Poss, age 48, a former Laurens County Sheriff’s Office detention officer, was arrested at his residence on Monday morning by Laurens County Deputies as a result of a joint investigation conducted by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Poss was charged with Violation of Oath of Office and Procuring Prohibited items to an inmate.
To be clear, Poss was a jailer and not a deputy. His social media page says he began working with at the detention center in December of last year.
Laurens County Sheriff Larry Dean commended the efforts of both agencies for their hard work and dedication to the case.
