obit Coleman

Mrs. Lucy Sikes Coleman, age 83, of the Ponderosa Community, died Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Memorial Health in Savannah from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Toombs County on Sunday.  She was a native of Tattnall County, living most of her life in Toombs County and at Ponderosa since 1961.  She was a 1958 graduate of Collins High School where she played basketball and was coached by Anson Callaway.  She was a homemaker and retired as a school bus driver for the Toombs County Board of Education after twenty-five years.  She was a charter member of Liberty Baptist Church in Lyons and was a nursery worker for many years.  She was selfless, was dedicated and faithful to God, her family, and her church, and had genuine love and concern for everyone.  She enjoyed socializing and the outdoors, especially fishing.  She is preceded in death by the love of life, her husband of fifty-four years, Johnny Coleman who she married on February 14, 1961; one daughter, Crystal Rae Coleman Edwards; two grandsons, Dillion Taylor and John W. Smith; and parents, Milton Sikes and Monteen Hayes Sikes.

Her family includes two daughters, Cindy Coleman Smith and husband Terry of Lyons, and Rachel Veach of Little Rock, Arkansas; one sister, Patsy Sikes Nelms of Lyons; one brother, Ronald Sikes and wife Ethel of Columbia, South Carolina;  six grandchildren, Cole Smith and fiancé Kaitlin Kissel, Regina Veach, Jonathan Veach, Jessica Veach, Steven Veach and Laura Veach; and four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her church family. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 12th, from 5:00 until 8:00.

The funeral service will be Saturday morning, April 13th, at 11:00 at Liberty Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Plowman officiating.  Burial will follow at Waters Cemetery near Normantown.
