Man of the Year

(L to R): Zack Fowler, Presenter and 2018 Man of the Year; Brian Bishop, 2023 Man of the Year; and Lisa Bishop, wife of this year's recipient.

A familiar voice to listeners of the radio stations in Vidalia and the 2018 Man of the Year came home back to Vidalia Tuesday night to announce the name of the recipient of the 2023 Vidalia Man of the Year.

Before revealing the honoree and Man of the Hour Brian Bishop, Zack Fowler read a brief list of the man’s accomplishments and reasons as to why he was selected as the Man of the Year.

Fowler said, “Since 1948, Vidalia has honored one of its own as its Citizen of the Year. The title was changed to “Man of the Year” a few years back and tonight we're spotlighting a man who truly “walks the walk” in service to our community. He attends and volunteers in his church, Trinity Baptist, living a life of caring for and respecting others. He exemplifies Faith, Love and Charity. Look around the community and you’ll see his fingerprints.”

Bishop said of his new distinction, “I love this community, and it’s important to give back. I don’t feel like I deserve this recognition. I believe those that do are my wife Lisa and our children; they put up with a lot.

“I grew up in Oak Park and my parents and grandparents taught me how valuable it was to volunteer and give back,” he continued. “When I moved to Vidalia as just a young man from Oak Park, I was welcomed, and I knew that this is where I was supposed to be.”

The annual recognition of the Man of the Year is sponsored by the Vidalia Rotary Club, the Vidalia Kiwanis Club, and the Vidalia Lyons Club.
