4 23 24 Toombs Co Golf

On Monday and Tuesday (April 15-16), the Toombs County men’s golf team showcased their skills at the prestigious 48th Larry Gaither Golf Invitational in Columbus, Georgia. This event, formerly known as the Hardaway Invitational, holds the distinction of being the second longest-running high school golf tournament in the United States.

The Bulldogs delivered an impressive performance during the 36-hole event, recording consecutive season-low team scores. On Monday, the team notched a combined score of 333, with sophomore Vick Moore leading the charge by posting a personal season-low of 76. He was well-supported by Clay Conner with an 82, Noah Anken scoring 85, and Drew Woodruff who completed the round with a 90. The team improved further on Tuesday, tallying a combined score of 328. Vick Moore continued his strong play with a 78, followed by Clay Conner’s 84, Drew Woodruff’s 81, and Noah Anken matching his previous day’s score of 85.

Looking ahead, the Bulldogs are eager to maintain their strong form as the season approaches its conclusion. Next week, the team will participate in two matches. The inaugural Vidalia/Toombs Ryder Cup will take place on Tuesday at Brazell’s Creek, where it will be held in a match-play format. Spectators are encouraged to come and support the teams. On Thursday, both the men’s and women’s teams will head to McRae to wrap up regular season play against Jeff Davis High School.

The area tournaments are scheduled for Monday, April 29, and Tuesday, April 30, promising more exciting golf action from the Bulldogs as they continue to build on their successful season.(Courtesy of Toombs County Athletics)
