Amelia McCombs

Mrs. Amelia McLain McCombs, age 78, of the Blue Ridge Community, Lyons, died Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Memorial Health in Savannah, after a brief illness.  She was born in Savannah, lived in Toombs County most of her life and was Salutatorian of the Class of 1964 at Lyons High School.  She worked as a bookkeeper for Piggly Wiggly Southern for many years and as a legal assistant for the law firm of Newton, Smith, Durden, Kaufold, and Rice.  She was a member of Marietta Free Will Baptist Church, serving as church pianist, organist, and secretary/treasurer.  She enjoyed reading, crocheting, cross-stitching, and sewing.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Wayne McCombs; parents, Willis McLain, Jr. and Melba Spell McLain; and an infant brother, Mark McLain. 

Her family includes two daughters, Janna McCombs Tabor and husband Britt of Lyons, and Jennifer McCombs Mercer and fiancé Greg Yarbrough of Norman Park; one sister, Brenda Walton of Valdosta; five grandchildren, Blake Burkett of Vidalia, Elaine Mercer of Norman Park, Brittan Tabor of Lyons, Amelia Mercer and Collin Mercer of Norman Park; one great-granddaughter, Vivienne Burkett; one nephew, Clint Cooper and wife Mindy of Brooklet; one niece, Christy Scoggins and husband Jeff of Valdosta; great-nieces, Savannah Scoggins and Sara Beth Scoggins; great-nephews, Rhett Cooper and Christopher Scoggins; and special family friend, Mark Findley and wife LaRee of the Five Points Community.

The funeral service will be Wednesday afternoon, May 8th, at 2:00 at Marietta Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Irvin Murphy, Pastor Ken Murphy and Pastor Randy Jackson officiating.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
