Many Vidalians have loved one interred in Pine Crest Cemetery and a group of concerned citizens has come together to address some of the needs at the burial plots that demanded attention as well as improve the conditions of the overall site.

Recently Harry Moses presented a report to the Vidalia City Council on what is being done at the cemetery and what some of the plans are for the future of hallowed grounds.

Building on the plans from the original Pine Crest Cemetery Committee I, Moses said Pine Crest Cemetery Committee II had been able to consolidate all of the real estate of the cemetery. As it was, the land was part of the City of Vidalia and two families. Now that the property is under one jurisdiction, it will be the City of Vidalia who will serve as the trustees of the cemetery.

“We have several large and small directives,” Moses said. “We plan to pave the roads in the cemetery, upgrade the security, address the fencing and the gates to ensure the property is secured and install signage.”

Moses said the signs would be an upgrade of the current signs erected with street names around the city.

“We are also going to do some landscaping and install irrigation,” he continued. “We plan on building a resting and meditation area, and compiling a burial directory that will be in a digital format.”
