Mrs. Elaine Wilkes McSwain, age 85, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at her home in Gainesville, Georgia. She was a native of Lyons and a 1957 graduate of Lyons High School. She attended South Georgia College in Douglas where she was chosen as Homecoming Queen. Elaine worked at Darby Bank in Vidalia for several years, but spent a great deal of time in Gainesville, Georgia and Daytona, Florida. She was a member of Vidalia Presbyterian Church. She was a devoted and serving wife and she loved spending time with her family; she especially loved attending and supporting her children and grandchildren at their athletic events. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Oren Wilkes and Loree Sapp Wilkes; brother, Robert Wilkes; and sister, Loretta Darby.
Her family includes her husband of sixty-seven years, Dan McSwain of Vidalia; three children, Sharon McSwain and wife Ruthie of Ormond Beach, Florida, Jay McSwain and wife Ginger, and Keith McSwain and wife Kelly, all of Atlanta; one sister, Joan Davis and Randy of Dawsonville; nine grandchildren, Mandi Kirby and husband Ryan, Maisie Bauer and husband Will, Maggie McSwain, Mary McSwain, Khloe McSwain, Presleigh Porter, Zoe Porter and Hunter Porter, all of Atlanta, and Madeleine McSwain of Ormond Beach; four great-grandchildren, Brayden, Ashton, Jack and Nora Rose, all of Atlanta; former daughter in law, Marcia McSwain of Gainesville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Vidalia Presbyterian Church on Friday afternoon, December 6th from 2:00 until just prior to the funeral service at 3:00 with Reverend Jay McSwain and Reverend Don Moye officiating. Burial will follow at Lyons City Cemetery.
