Toombs County School System is growing both in numbers and facilities, and Superintendent Barry Waller explains what the stakeholders of Toombs County can expect soon from the district.

“We are excited about the continued growth, opportunity, and innovation in our district with the expansion projects at Toombs County High School that will provide much-needed space for the recently added new pathways for our students,” Superintendent Waller said. “The new CTAE Lab will house individual classrooms and hands-on learning laboratories for our Construction, Heavy Equipment Operation, and Engineering Pathways.”

Partnering with McLendon Enterprises, Toombs County Schools was the first to offer the Heavy Duty Equipment Pathway in the State of Georgia.

Waller said by constructing a new CTAE Lab, space now used for those instructions can be made available for the growing Performing Arts and Chorus Pathways, as well as the Audio Video Technology and eSports Teams.

Superintendent Waller said the CTAE Lab will cost around $4.5 million and is being funded along with several other construction projects through General Obligation Bonds which were voted on by the community and issued last February. The bond will in turn, be paid back by Education Special Purpose Local Option ales Tax fund.

The CTAE lab is located behind Toombs County High School, and expected to be ready for occupancy in the fall.

And then there’s the jewel for all Bulldog Fans.

“It’s been a longtime coming,” he said, “but we are renovating Booster Stadium. The stadium was built in 1965, and we’ve been struggling for the last few years with the bleachers on the visitors’ side. We’ll replace those bleachers and construct bathrooms underneath them, build a new ticket booth and do other projects at the stadium. But with the new brickwork and it’s going to be something in which Toombs County fans can be proud.”

Waller said that project should be completed by the first home game in early September.
