Kim Stephens, Lyons 2023 Citizen of the Year, with Lucretia Nobles, Lyons 2022 Citizen of the Year
The 51st Lyons Citizen of the Year was announced Thursday evening, and the name of the recipient was a well-kept secret until the man’s identity was revealed by the 2022 honoree, Lucretia Nobles.
“Tonight, we honor Raymond Kim Stephens,” Nobles said.
In addition to owning businesses, farming, family life, and helping in the community, Stephens devotes countless hours to helping guide young men as a leader of the Boy Scouts of America.
“He became active in the Boy Scout program when his son became a Cub Scout,” Nobles continued. “He encouraged him all the way through to the Eagle Scout status. He has helped and encouraged a number of local young men to earn their Eagle Scout status as well. Kim is a great role model for the young people of this community. He and his troop traveled to Madison, Florida, over the weekend of September 16 to help several families clean up debris that had fallen when Hurricane Idalia fell in their path.
“Kim feels that giving back to his community is the right thing to do,” Nobles said. “He who is persistent in his work, will wear a crown.”
The element of surprise was unmistakable on Stephens’ face as he humbly accepted the recognition.
“I just work hard,” Stephens said. “I feel it’s something my dad would want me to do. I try to do the best for my community, and of course, I do love working with these kids. Other than that, I don’t know what to say. This is amazing!”
The Lyons Citizen of the Year is sponsored by the Lyons Lions Club and the City of Lyons.
