Voters in Georgia are currently in the early voting stage for the Presidential Preference Primary with in-person voting to be held on Tuesday, March 12. As of Tuesday, at 5:00 when the Toombs County Election’s Office closed, 349 voters had early voted, with 24 absentee ballots returned of the 59 absentee ballots that were sent out.
But there’s more candidates who will be on the ballot in November besides who will serve as the Commander and Chief of the United States. One of those local election will be to determine who will be the top county law enforcement officer of Toombs County.
On Wednesday of this week, Capt. Jordan Kight officially announced his candidacy to seek the office being vacated by his father, Alvie Lee Kight, Jr., who announced last September that he would not seek re-election to office when his term is completed at the end of this year. Lyons Chief of Police Wesley Walker has already announced he will be seeking the office in opposition of Jordan Kight.
There will also be three Commissioner seats on the ballot. Those seats are currently held by Wendell Dixon of District 2, Darrel Nobles of District 3, and David Sikes, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners.
Other Toombs County offices on the ballots include Coroner, currently held by Ronald V. Hall; Toombs County Tax Commissioner who is now Brenda Williams; Toombs County Probate Judge presently held by Tina Sanders Lindsey; Toombs County Clerk of Courts currently served by Nancy Pittman; and three seats on the Toombs County Board of Education for positions now held by Trent Williams in District 2, Michael Grimes in District 4, and Josh Dixon in District 6.
Qualifying for all these offices will be held next week, March 4 – 8, with qualifying fees varying depending on which office is being sought. A General Primary/Non-partisan Election for local, state, and federal offices will be held on May 21, with a run-off election on June 18 if needed.
The General Election for the final determination of who will hold office will be Tuesday, November 5, with a run-off on December 3 if needed.
