A Toombs County woman is currently in the Laurens County Jail in Dublin after she was found in possession of a massive amount of methamphetamine last Saturday.
According to the Laurens County Sheriff's Office multiple agencies teamed up to conduct criminal interdiction on Interstate 16. Working together were troopers with the Georgia State Patrol, and personnel from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and deputies with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office. Their efforts paid off when a vehicle was stopped for multiple traffic infractions, and it was during that stop, that law enforcement discovered the drugs.
Tiffany Thomas of Vidalia was the sole occupant in the vehicle. In her possession was a large box containing 12-gallon-sized Ziploc bags filled with a crystal-like substance. The substance was tested at the stop and confirmed to be methamphetamine.
Laurens County Sheriff Larry Dean said the drugs weight a staggering 26 pounds. He further expressed his gratitude in the collaboration of all law enforcement and said, “Their efforts successfully removed a large quantity of narcotics from the streets and disrupted the operations of dealers and users. This outstanding collaboration between multiple agencies demonstrates the impact of unified law enforcement efforts in combating drug-related crimes.”
When asked what the street value of the drugs may be, Vidalia Chief of Police James Jermon said he was unsure of the street value but said that it would “astronomical.”
As of Wednesday, Thomas remains in the custody of the Laurens County Jail according to the jail roster. She is charged with trafficking on cocaine/methamphetamine, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain crimes, as well as motor vehicle operation violations.
