Not too long ago, it was announced that the Social Security Office in Vidalia would be one of five in Georgia that may be closing, and the news had some seniors wondering what they would do if they needed help.
That’s when Toombs County ActionPact stepped up with a way to provide a solution.
Local Coordinator Pam Fountain said seniors still need to be able to access their Social Security if and when the local office closes, and with the help of Georgia Legal Aid attorneys, a one-day event will help protect your Social Security benefits.
On April 29, a free legal clinic will be held at the Toombs County ActionPact Center in the Vidalia Community Center on Airport Road. But appointments need to be made in advance by calling 912-963-1779 or emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by Friday, April 25.
During the legal clinic, attorneys will be setting up online accounts through the Social Security website and offering a tutorial on how Social Security recipients can access their accounts once it is set up, so it will be necessary for those attending the clinic to bring their mobile smart phone with an active email account. In addition, you should bring two forms of identification, and any recent mailed notices from the Social Security Administration which you may have received.
Legal Aid attorneys say that during this uncertain time, mistakes could affect benefits, and utilizing the MySocialSecurity online portal is the best way to protect monthly benefits and healthcare coverage, and local ActionPact Coordinator Fountain considers this opportunity “very crucial” for all area seniors and those who qualified Social Security recipients.
